Passive Park Land, Far Rockaway, Queens, NY, 1996
Creative Habitat Corp. planned and supervised soil remediation and planting activities at a 5 acre site of passive City park land in Far Rockaway, Queens. Initial site investigations started in 1992. Creative Habitat drew up restoration plans, oversaw the permit application process, prepared cost estimates and bid documents, and supervised construction, site improvement and planting activities.

The project involved the restoration of degraded coastal grassland and forest habitat. Prominent design features were the removal and control of invasive species (including Phragmites), plant salvage (on-site) and plant rescue (off-site), enhancement and the re-establishment of woodland, grassland and dune vegetation, the protection of the entire project site from illegal dumping, and the prevention of vehicular access. Creative Habitat has been monitoring the success of the plantings for the past five years, reports and documents are currently being compiled.
